  3. Photographic Research:  Skies/Landscapes
Some nice shots of the landscape around my home.  Should investigate plants for fantasy environments, and look at researching some buildings/architecture in person.
Lots more photographic research to go!

  4. Photographic Research:  Sunsets.
I really love sunsets, and I’m lucky to be out in the country where I can really enjoy a variety of types, both out across the countryside, and the sea.
I’d really like to work towards a final painting that incorporates a sunset, and the colours they can create - Rich pinks, purples and peach tones.  Although these are warm colours, we often see them here, in Scotland, on the coldest of days.
I also like sunsets, because they tend to highlight cloud formations in the most dramatic way possible, and I think dramatic clouds in a painting will be fantastic.
Maybe a rich sunset sky, juxtaposed with a darm, dim, cold cluster of buildings?

  5. Reflection on Moodboards/Research

It seems that a majority of commercial concept art uses more subdued, cool palettes, and I’m assuming this is because the majority of games being made right now are focusing on using ‘realistic’ graphics, basing environments on dystopian futures, where everything is grimy, dusty and rather unpleasant.

I’m thinking, that maybe I should work towards creating two final pieces, one with a ‘popular’ subdued colour scheme (predominantly browns, greys, pale skies, little saturated colour, etc)  and one bright, fantasy environment, utilising vivid colour.  I could possibly divulge my research now, into both avenues?

Think I might look at creating some palettes for certain situations; sunsets, forests, cityscapes, seascapes, etc.  Maybe creating separate palettes to convey opposite moods?
